As a reviewer, you open the submissions assigned to you from the reviewer dashboard. If you can't see them, or you can't fill out a review, find what you see below and follow the fix. As an organizer, each cause also tells you what to check.
The event organizers manage reviewer access and assignments. If no cause below applies, contact them.
Open the reviewer dashboard
To see your reviews, sign in to Fourwaves, click your profile picture, then click Reviewer under My dashboards. Then click the event. How to review submissions gives all the steps.
If you reviewed for an earlier edition of the same conference, make sure that you click this year's event.
Check a reviewer's access as an organizer
As an organizer, go to Peer review > Reviewers. For each reviewer, this page shows:
the name, or Account pending activation if Fourwaves created the reviewer's account when you added them and they haven't activated it;
the email address that their reviews are linked to;
the number of Assigned reviews and Completed reviews;
the Review status, for example No assignments.
Then find the cause below.
The reviewer dashboard shows "No reviews"
The reviewer dashboard shows No reviews when it lists no event.
You signed in with another email address
Your reviews are linked to the Fourwaves account of the email address that the organizers entered. If you have more than one address, for example a personal one and an institutional one, you can be signed in to the wrong account.
To fix it, sign out, then sign in with the address that the organizers used. If you don't know which one they used, ask them. See Trouble signing in?.
As an organizer, check the reviewer's email address in Peer review > Reviewers. If it's wrong, first delete the reviews assigned to the wrong address, so they don't stay pending. See Assign submissions to reviewers. Then add the reviewer with the correct address and assign the submissions to them. See Add reviewer.
The organization's plan doesn't include peer review
The reviewer dashboard lists an event only while the organization's plan includes peer review. If the plan changed, the event disappears for all its reviewers.
As an organizer, check your plan under Plan & billing in the organization dashboard. Peer review is available from the Advanced plan.
The event shows "No assignments"
No submissions are assigned to you yet
The reviewer dashboard lists every event you were added to, before any submission is assigned to you. Until then, the Review status of the event is No assignments.
To fix it, wait for the organizers to assign submissions to you. They can send you an email when they do.
As an organizer, know that adding a reviewer doesn't assign submissions to them. Check the Assigned reviews column in Peer review > Reviewers. To assign submissions, see Assign submissions to reviewers.
You can't sign in to see your reviews
Your account isn't activated
When organizers add you as a reviewer, Fourwaves creates an account with your email address. You receive the email "You've been added as a reviewer". Click Go to my account in this email to activate your account. The link is valid for 30 days.
If you can't find the email, check your spam or junk folder. If the link expired or the email is missing, see Trouble signing in? to get a new activation email.
As an organizer, you can send the reviewer a new link:
Go to Peer review > Reviews.
Search for the reviewer, then select their reviews.
Click Contact.
In the message, click Variables and insert Reviewer dashboard link.
Click Next, then Send.
For a reviewer who hasn't activated their account, this link also activates it. This works only after you assign submissions to the reviewer.
To see if the invitation reached the reviewer, search for their address in Communication > Emails and check its status. See Email communication status meaning.
You can't fill out or edit a review
The reviewing period isn't open
Reviewers can fill out and edit reviews only during the reviewing period. Before the period, the review page shows Reviewing period opening. After the period, it shows Reviewing period closed. You can still open your assigned submissions.
The review page shows the reviewing period in your own time zone. To fix it, come back when the period opens, or ask the organizers to extend it.
As an organizer, change the Reviewing period in Peer review > Form > Settings. See Customize reviews.
You declared a conflict of interest
When you declare a conflict of interest, the review shows Conflict of interest and the review form disappears.
To undo it, open the review and click Revert, then Confirm. During the reviewing period, the review form shows again. Organizers can do the same from the review in Peer review > Reviews.
To learn how to declare a conflict, see How to review submissions.
The submission opens, but information is missing
The field isn't visible to reviewers
Reviewers see only the submission fields that organizers select under Fields visible to reviewers. For a blind review, organizers hide the names of the submitter and the authors.
If you need a field that you can't see, ask the organizers.
As an organizer, go to Peer review > Form > Settings and select the field under Fields visible to reviewers. See Customize reviews.
